Sean Bell, Spring Health

Sean Bell is head of new ventures at Spring Health, a very well-funded mental health company. They’ve built a tech platform that its providers (both contractors and FT employees) are on, and spend a lot of time using machine learning to match patients to therapists, to augment the care and also measure the impact of that care. Sean told me about both how Spring Health works and how much its grown, and what new specialized care is being introduced in 2025. He talks quick and we covered a lot of ground including the business of being a highly-valued private mental health company when there are some lower priced public companies out there. Interesting interview — Matthew Holt

#Healthin2Point00, Episode 230 | Commure, Spring Health, UniteUs, Nomad & Xealth

It’s been quite a while since Jess & I did a Health in 2 Point 00 and that one was buried in our Policies|Techies|VCs conference in the first week of September. But, as John Malkovich says, We’re back…

Commure gets $500m and maybe one day we’ll know what it does, Spring Health adds to the mental health funding party, UniteUs buys competitor NowPow; Nomad banks $63m for its nurse hiring service, and Xealth adds $24m, even though I’m not sure it’s more than a feature! – Matthew Holt

#Healthin2Point 00, Episode 169 | They’re real and they’re SPACtacular!

Today on Health in 2 Point 00, It’s a whacky SPACy world, as a new SPAC rolls “UpHealth” and has me singing Bob Marley, meanwhile there’s $91m for remote clinical trial software player Medable, $76m more for Spring Health joining the throng of mental health companies, while K-Health gets $42m to introduce chat bot front ends to Korean pop music…or something like that. —Matthew Holt

Health in 2 Point 00, Episode 107 | SoftBank Money, Judy Faulkner’s Letter, & Practice Fusion Gossip

Today on Health in 2 Point 00, we have SoftBank Money! I managed to beat Chrissy Farr to this piece of gossip by about 3 weeks, but digital pharmacy startup Alto raises $250 million from SoftBank. Medloop raises 6 million euros doing communication with patients, and mental health startup Spring Health raises $22 million as well. Turning to the EMR drama, I also give a rundown on Judy Faulkner’s letter, and explain the cautionary tale that is Practice Fusion & the Purdue opiate promotion. —Matthew Holt
