I don’t usually write about incidents from the drug war that don’t concern medical marijuana or opiates/pain management. But this sentence of 2 years for a 17 year old high school kid for selling one joint sums up the insanity of the war on drugs, and how many of the nation’s District Attorneys have gone completely insane.
This could be anyone’s kid. Including yours.

I’m delighted that you’re a kind loving father who believes in sending your kid to jail for 2 years for a first offense, and an offense that has no victim at that.
But any chance you can do it on your own dime without forcing the rest of us to pay for it? Or are you a prison guard in need of more overtime?
If it were my kid, he’d also be doing 2 years.
